This morning being the last Saturday of the month we paid a visit to the poultry and dead stock sale in Llandeilo Thanks Bovey Belle I finally made it, I had marked it on the calender so I didn't forget.

I didn't buy any poultry on this visit although I was was very tempted with the pheasants
There was loads of eggs for hatching and young chicks.
We had a good mooch around the car boot as well and I bought
a lovely set of bellows for £3.50 my last ones the bellow part got torn and I have been on the look for some more since we moved.
There was loads of interesting things for sale in the dead stock auction but I remained restrained.
We stayed to watch a bit of the poultry auction then decided to leave as we were not buying on this visit, but we will be back now we know the set up.
When Martin arrived home last night he brought me these
We are now into Crayfish season he took the trap back with him last week and set in the place we are allowed to, 10 crayfish in this haul, our biggest was 66, so tonight we are having Crayfish and stir fry.
I have been unpacking more shop boxes today that Martin brought up with him but did have time for a quick visit around the veggie garden, the Parsnip have surfaced along with first of the potatoes, Beans are up as well, Pumpkin and Squash are pushing out there true leaves, Basil and Coriander are up as well, everything is really up and running now, tomorrow I am picking our first crop of purple sprouting Broccoli our fir veg grown here, we will be having it with some of our home reared pork.
I has remained dry today although overcast, Martin has been working on jobs outside I feel like the pressure of getting things done is finally lifting and we can spend a bit of time going out and about.
You have worked so very hard to get things ready for this growing season, so it was pleasing to read the pressure is lifting, enjoy your meal, sounds lovely, we have decided to order in Pizza, just waiting for it to arrive, a rare treat for us. when you list more items for sale from you shop can you please post a link.

DeleteHah! It was ME who completyely forgot about Ffairfach this time and we toodled into town instead. I am glad you got something useful in the car boot sale (which is normally pretty dire) and enjoyed seeing all the poultry in the auction. Don't buy in May, as that is when they are at their dearest, though that said, that's when most are in lay.
ReplyDeleteThose Crayfish will be tasty. My friend's boyfriend used to catch them at a pond in Dorset, where he fished, but the pond ended up more crayfish than fish (which got very thin because the crayfish had all the food). The owner of the pond was under the impression that the half a dozen crayfish he had released there were still only half a dozen in number!
Your garden sounds to be doing well.
It was great to get there and I think it will be a regular monthly event for us :-)

ReplyDeleteWe have been trapping crayfish for about 6 years I dont know if there are any around here but they were were we lived
DeleteNot sure about those crayfish.....they made me feel quite squeamish for some reason!

DeleteCan you tell me how to find out if a river has (signal) crayfish we live next to one and wondered if we could apply for a license if it has got them
ReplyDeleteLove the top pheasant picture , hubby has a hankering for a lady amerhurst pheasant but the cost..........
Contact the local enviromental office they will tell you, they will also issue you with a license you need an approved trap and it has to be tagged very simple process, you could also speak with local fishermen they would be able to tell you if there is American signals there. :-)
DeleteCray fish lpok good. I've got some traps but only ever caight eels but the still taste great. Maybe I should try in the brook here.
