Getting Back Into The Swing

Now the second family visit has gone home we are just left with one grandson until tomorrow, Helen had to got back to the vet this morning, her cast is now off, they recommended we keep her confined for the next 7 days, to prevent her undoing the repairs, there is a lot of muscle waste but it will soon build up again.

We built a small enclosure with her own little house
She seems very happy in there
Grandson cleared all the old branches from the goat field and had a quad driving lesson
Then it was a lesson in log splitting

He soon made short work of the logs,
Then he went off logging with Martin, I pottered in the poly tunnels, cut some Basil to dry
When they returned it was time for a bonfire
Jacket potatoes and burgers are being cooked on it for dinner,
I will do a post on the poly tunnels tomorrow, there is a lot going on in them.

"John arrived 9.30am with Land Rover and Ifore William Trailer and lost load, after travelling all night. David and Margaret leaving this afternoon after spending a few days, Molly and Douglas here.
Rode round most of the fields to show Douglas as much as possible very lovely day just like springtime, scenery fantastic. "

  1. What a grand helper you have staying with you Dawn! Lovely to see him learning some of life on the land :)

Can I ask, is John the lady's ex husband? The diary writer, and is Molly and Douglas her children? I think it's wonderful to read of the start of her journey on the farm! If I ever get a farm, I'm so doing that!! And I will leave my book there too ha!

    1. John is her new partner/husband I dont know what relation Molly and Douglas are but I gather there adults, I gather from her previous little book that is all about her divorce and time before she moved here that John had just bought the farm and she was moving here after her divorce was finalised.

  3. Its great to have a little help around the place. I only have a small garden but its all go now things are ripening so I dread to thin what it must be like sorting everything so you can keep virtually 'self sufficient'. Loving the extract.

  4. I love the extract - made me smile.
Also quad bike lessons - how impressive! I could do with a few for when we can eventually afford one!

    1. Quad bike is fairly easy if you can drive a manual car

  6. The log splitter shows us you are getting ready for winter and some cosy nights next to the fire.

    1. We burn wood all year round so the log splitter is in constant use.

  7. Nice to see that you are also starting to cut your winter wood, but no basil for us this year and no parsley because Lester forgot to plant them in the spring! Next year, though, I shall gently remind him as I miss the lovely aromatic harvesting of those herbs.
