Time To Unpack

Most of today has been spent unpacking boxes and trying to find homes for everything, there is still tons of boxes to get through, The kitchen ones have been the main priority at last I have found most of the kitchen equipment, today the appliances arrived, the washing machine I am really pleased pleased with it has a 15 min wash cycle which is fantastic, it also has a eco wash that uses less water and washes at 30 deg, it has been tried out and works well, It has been a lovely sunny day so washing was out on the line in the sunshine, the chest freezer has been switched on and tomorrow I am transferring everything over from the upright that we are keeping in the barn, the chest freezer fits in lovely in the boot room and leaves a lovely space for hubby to build a nice big pantry cupboard. We haven't unpacked the fridge and cooker yet we are waiting to get the kitchen floor covering down so we are still using the little fridge.
The carpet fitters were back to finish off the carpets so that is all done now. The Rayburn engineer came out and looked over the Rayburn for me, he is going to order a new door thermostat and a couple of fire bricks that are missing, when they arrive he is going to call back and do a service then, there was no charge for today's visits, that did surprise me, he ran through a few things with me but all in all the Rayburn is working fine, I did cook us a chicken curry tonight on it.Tomorrow I am going to attempt some bread.
Before
After
We spent a bit of time in the sunshine sort out the front of the house today's, got some of the hanging baskets up and hubby washed all the fascia boards, the front porch is just breeze blocks and we plan to get it rendered, it will be painted a buttermilk colour along with the side wall and porch. We also have to get the chimneys repointed and rendered.
A lot of the pots of trees and shrubs I moved alongside the driveway, it has given me the idea of edging the drive with lavender, I did edge the grass back of the drive to tidy it up a bit, a some point the drive will be re-done but its not on the list of priority jobs. I got my bird feeder up and its starting to get visitors, sparrows, tits and a robin, we have lots of swallows about and there is a pair nesting in the porch, we have also seen lots of Buzzards and Red Kites.

  1. What a wonderful looking house - so much character and history.

Please tell me make of your new washing machine - our latest one (couple of years old) has one short cycle but all the rest are 2 hours and much, much more!

For the 1st 25 years of marriage we had a wonderful Hotpoint top loader (it was automatic) It cost a fortune but gave such clean washes. It got remodelled but the new version was awful; now it doesn't seem to be made anymore.

You and your husband are very hardworkers and have achieved so much - I admire you

I just wanted to say how lovely everything is looking, and I love the idea of edging your driveway with lavender! I hope that you get everything sorted out how you want it, but it seems as though it is already going really well! xx
