Being on my own doesn't worry me but its nice to have some security measures in place, also its nice to know when some-one is coming to the door, when I am in the cabin I don't know when some-one is at the door, just after moving in we set up a driveway alarm
It only cost £10 and lets me know when there is activity in the driveway, vehicle or person
That's all well and good but when it goes off at night it is nice to know exactly what is going on out there.
When we moved out of the shop I had 2 CCTV sets
This one that comes with its own little screen,
And this one that is put through a flat screen TV, this one we can also set up to view on line if we wanted.
I had a go at setting up the one with its own screen today, I want to use it in the cabin so when the alarm goes off I can look to see who is coming to the house.

Both sets are wireless have sound and in daylight it is a colour screen and they both record on detecting movement, the other set will be set up to view in the house.
As well as covering the driveway the other cameras will be set up to give me all round vision, so hopefully no surprises.
Do you take security measures or do you think this is a bit extreme.?
Whether it's rural or urban home security I think it is very important to protect as much as you can (mind you, we have to park our car on the street and we have had all sorts of vandalism over the years)
ReplyDeleteWe have had vandelism to cars in the past that was before cctv was everyday, I wonder if we can get a reduction on insurance now :-) my car insurance went up when we moved here surprisingly
DeleteI worked for a CCTV company for a couple of years and think they are great, we have two camera's one for front and one for back. I don't fancy an alarm system.
ReplyDeleteThe driveway alarm is good its like a doorbell ring, last night it went off at 9-30 and when I looked at the screen it was a passing fox at least I know whats out there ;-)
DeleteAt first when I saw this post I was worried that something had happened to you, but I am glad nothing has. I totally see the sense of knowing who is coming and going while you are in the cabin, no doubt for quite long periods of time, and especially as you have deliveries coming and going so I hope that it will useful for you and make you feel safe and secure too. A good use of your old cameras from the shop too! xx
ReplyDeleteI have missed a few signed for deliverys which is really annoying, the other cameras will be set so i can see the animal paddocks so I can keep an eye on them too even better when babies are due :-)

DeleteI think this is a good idea. I've toyed with installing something but I'm at home so much now that I've not bothered. It would be good to have a way to recording all the vehicles that come down the drive though, it would act as a good deterrent. And anything to make you feel safer has to be a good thing. I have installed quite a bit of lighting around the outside of our place and that helps, so if I wake up in the night I can knock the lights on and check no one is there (I'm a very light sleeper!).
ReplyDeleteI am a fairly light sleeper but our walls are so thick you cannot here anything, even when mr fox or pole cat took 2 of our ducks I didnt here a thing and they wouldnt have gone quietly, if i did hear anything I would be too scared I think in case it was a big bad man :-)
DeleteWell, you are happy knowing when people arrive, but I have to say, this IS rural Wales you know, and we you and I live, an area of very low crime. We have been here nearly 27 years now and the only crime we have heard of in our valley is when some travellers came across from Ireland 20 years back and went round appropriating stuff they had seen "for the taking" outside houses - mainly folk with outside generators, unlocked toolsheds (and chainsaws in them). We just have a squeaky front gate, so always know when someone is coming up the driveway. But you have peace of mind, so that is a positive.

ReplyDeleteOur lights are set off by movement, which means that we know when the cat or a hedgehog or the likes walks in front of it in the night! that's about all. I know I'm a bit of an ostrich but I prefer to leave it that way. I have friends who have burglar alarms that are set off by spiders etc, but in the night when it goes off, they don't know that, so she lies there wondering if she is being burgled ( and what to do) or it's the pesky spider again! and if it goes off while the are out, the neighbours are none too pleased. Mind you I might feel differently if I lived in a town!
