I Understand Its Christmas Next Week

I checked on the calender and yes its true it is Christmas next week, I thought i should try and get into the swing of it, my daughter and grandchildren are coming down at the week end and I am 100% sure the kids are full of Christmas excitement.
I have put the tree up, yes it is one of those gold twiggy ones with fibre optic lights, we have had it for years at least 8 years, no decorating needed just plug in and go, I have stood it in a glass bowl that is filled with gold glass baubles and chocolate coins.
So that's the tree done, easy whats all the fuss about.
I also did this little display of fruit and nuts on the sideboard

Sid the squirrel is a nutcracker and that is a firefighter nutcracker that was bought for hubby some years ago by his parents from when they were in Florida.
I bought the poinsettia today when I was in town.
I have what I consider is a nice collection of Christmas Ornaments, I don't go for the tinsel and glittery garlands, I would rather do a few subtle displays. I will do a few more over the next couple of days.
Many of the ornaments have been bought over 20 years, and a lot of them were bought at German markets, I do take care of what we have and enjoy adding to the collection, I haven't seen anything this year to add to the collection, but I did buy two new Yankee Candles
when I ventured into town today,  I do have a weakness for Yankee Candles and these are there two new Christmas Fragrances, The shops were not really busy I picked up a few things I needed and some animal feed that's me done with shopping now until next year.

  3. I do not usually have fragranced candles but this year I smelled some Apple and Cinnamon ones in Ponty, I now have them in the dining room. Very pleasant.

    1. i am not a lover of cinnamon but at this time of year I can make exceptions to the scent as long as it is not too over powering, Apple scent I love.

  4. My favorite Christmas Yankee candle scent is Balsam and cedar...don't think it is sold in the UK...
I have tons of Christmas ornaments, all of which I love and most that never get out ..I worked for many years in a shop that sold the most wonderful vintage reproduction ornaments...I rarely buy anything more, but won't give those up!
You have made incredible progress since you have moved! Love to hear all you are doing? How is your lovely dog?

    1. Kara is well and truly settled and has all four paws firmly under the table, she is becoming more and more dogified each day, a joy to see.

  5. Never heard of Yankee Candles. We will buy some scented candles at the weekend. Are the Yankee candles a superior product?

    1. I do think they are well scented..and have a good variety of scents. I was burning a "grandma's Apple Pie" candle one day when my oldest walked in from school. He thought I was baking and got very excited...!

    2. They burn evenly and for such a long time and the scent stays to the very end, I have some that were bought and part burned years ago and they still have a lovely scent.

  6. All our decorations got soaked when they were being stored (while we were living in a caravan prior to moving into the house), and I did think of replacing them. But now I think not, especially after seeing your Christmas decs. So minimal is how it will be for us as well in the future, but for this year it is just the Christmas cards!

    1. It wasnt a deliberate change it sort of happened when the kids left home and we went away most christmases, but I do prefer it like this.

  7. Just playing catch up and you have had a busy time of things, but have a bulging freezer, which is GOOD! Sounds like you are on top of Christmas anyway, and I bet those candles give a beautiful Christmassy smell to your house.

  8. A lovely minimal, but beautiful collection of Christmas things.

Yankee candles are the best aren't they. They seem expensive compared to some others but when you find out how long they burn for and how true the scent stays from lighting to being all used up you soon realise they are worth every penny.

I have a dish with one of the ceramic shades that I use on the large jar candles, it looks lovely on the window sill. I love all the vanilla scents best, but it's always nice to get a Christmassy one in isn't it.

    1. I agree they are great value they burn forever, there are lots of cheaper take offs out there but you get what you pay for.
