Introducing Sol

Here is Sol he is 8 years old, he was retired from Dogs for The Disabled a few weeks ago and was the partner to a young boy with autism, unfortunately the parents separated and couldn't afford to keep Sol anymore.
His training has been more companionship than what Kara was trained to do, he is bigger than Kara

He is very active and like to play he is also very alert and responds to how people are feeling, he was trained to diffuse a tantrum and difficult situations.
His training has been allowed to slip so he needs a bit of taking in hand, he is quiet and not a barker.
He reminds me of a dog version of James Dean I think he has a bit of rebellion in him, I am sure Kara sees him as a bit of rough.

They have both settled together although Kara has claimed his bed when she feels like it and then claims her bed back, she has put him straight a few times when he has stepped over the line.

Next week Kara is back at the vet and I am expecting the worst news ever as the 2 tumour's at the top of her leg are growing at a vast pace and now her mobility is being affected. She is also starting to show problems swallowing with the tumour on her neck, these will be last photos I put up of Kara as its becoming very difficult.
Fast asleep on Sol's bed after helping me collect the post
She tried to carry this little package home.

Hope you all have a brilliant Bank Holiday :-)

  1. Lovely dogs , Your pets are so much part of the family that when they are ill especially with things like tumours , Our last but one dog , Saxon A Staffordshire bull terrier had tumours wich they removed and treated it was his heart that failed in the end when he was 13 , We adopted sally from an Animal sanctuary we gave her a loving home for four years she used to be a hearing dog , she seemed to be so grateful and happy that we had adopted her ( I know its weird) but we could tell , We are now pet less by choice as it upsets you so much when they are not well , hope everything turns out well in the end xxx

  4. Sol looks a lovely chap and will give Cara some company and a Job to Do (putting him in his place!) I am sorry that her Cancer seems so aggressive. Life is so unfair sometimes. I will say the same as Rose, to give Kara a hug from me.

  5. I've had literally hundreds of animals through my hands when I ran my own rescue centre, each time one 'leaves' it takes a bit of your heart, it's never easy to face this situation, I've just had a reprieve (again) with Sopicat and know how the pain can be crippling.
God bless you Kara, and you too Dawn, stay strong for her.

  6. As your first commenter said, we are petless now by choice. We have had to put down several dogs over the years and it is so heartbreaking. I think it takes a special person, such as yourself, to adopt a senior dog knowing that their time left is limited. I'll be thinking of you and Kara as these final days/weeks slip by. Love and hugs to you both.

  12. So sorry to hear of Kara's decline. You have cared for her wonderfully and she must feel truly loved by you. In a very sad situation it's the best any of us could hope for.

  15. A massive hug for both you and Kara. At the end, she is having a perfect, if short retirement and was loved. In the end, when the time is right, it is the last act of love we can show them. I still miss my first dog and it took nearly 3 years to get Anni (our black lab) but I although hard when Patch was suffering, I knew it had to be done and she knew she was loved. xxx

  16. Oh poor Kara, things are developing so quickly, I hoped you would have longer. Give her a big doggy hug from me and my lot send their doggy licks and tail wags. xx

  17. I'm late to this post but my heart breaks for you! I lost my beloved Raphael kitty the day before Valentine's Day this year and I know I will never have another kitty like him! He was as crazy as it may sound the best friend I have ever had. The hole left in my heart is still raw so I can feel your pain with most certainty. But at least you have Sol to somewhat lessen the pain.
Hugs from a friend from across the pond,
